BGMI Lite is officially coming to India, and the wait has moved well beyond the rumour stage. KRAFTON has confirmed the new lighter version of Battlegrounds Mobile India, opened pre-registration for Android users and revealed several important details about how the game will work. The one major detail still missing is the exact launch date.
As of 19 September 2026, KRAFTON's official position is that BGMI Lite will launch in India by the end of 2026. Android users can already pre-register through Google Play, while details about iOS availability are still pending.
BGMI Lite Is Officially Coming to India
For years, Indian players using older or less powerful smartphones have asked for a lighter version of BGMI. That demand has now resulted in an official product from KRAFTON.
KRAFTON India announced BGMI Lite in August 2026 as a new way to access the Battlegrounds experience while putting greater emphasis on storage and device accessibility. The company later opened Android pre-registration on 25 August 2026.
Rather than describing it simply as a smaller game, KRAFTON is positioning BGMI Lite as a lighter way to play while retaining the core multiplayer battle royale experience. The official Google Play listing says the game is designed to use less storage, make getting into matches easier and reduce the burden on the device.
When Will BGMI Lite Release in India?
This is still the biggest unanswered question.
KRAFTON has confirmed that BGMI Lite will launch in India by the end of 2026, but it has not announced a specific day or month. Players should therefore be careful with social-media posts, videos or websites claiming that a particular release date has already been confirmed.
At present, the confirmed timeline is simply late 2026.
There has been speculation about a November release because KRAFTON's global PUBG MOBILE LIGHT project has its own November 2026 launch window. However, that is a separate title and market. KRAFTON India has not officially said that BGMI Lite will launch in November, so that should not be treated as a confirmed BGMI Lite date.
BGMI Lite Pre-Registration Is Live
Android users in India can already pre-register for BGMI Lite on the Google Play Store. The pre-registration campaign began on 25 August 2026.
The official listing is published by KRAFTON, Inc., which is important because unofficial websites have already started promoting fake APK files and supposed early versions of the game.
Players who pre-register should use the official Google Play listing rather than downloading files from third-party websites claiming to offer BGMI Lite before its official release.
BGMI Lite Initial Download Size Is Around 1GB
One of the clearest details revealed by KRAFTON is the game's initial download size.
The company says BGMI Lite will have an initial download of approximately 1GB. The official Google Play listing also explains that players will not have to download a large mandatory package before their first match.
Instead, BGMI Lite uses a modular approach. Additional content can be downloaded according to the player's needs, and unwanted modules can be removed later. This is particularly useful for users who have limited storage space.
That does not necessarily mean the entire game will permanently occupy only 1GB. The approximately 1GB figure refers to the initial download, while additional resources can be managed separately.
BGMI Lite Will Keep the Core Battle Royale Experience
KRAFTON is not presenting BGMI Lite as a completely different style of battle royale game. Its official listing describes the same core Battlegrounds experience, including the classic Erangel map and the familiar battle royale format.
The listing also states that Erangel supports 100 players, with the standard survival formula of collecting equipment, surviving the shrinking play zone and being the last player or team standing.
The idea is to reduce the burden of the installation and device resource requirements without turning the game into an unrelated spin-off.
Existing BGMI Players Can Use Their Current Account
Another major concern for existing BGMI players was whether they would have to create a completely new profile.
KRAFTON has confirmed that existing players can use their current BGMI account on BGMI Lite. The official Google Play listing goes a step further and states that owned items can carry over as well.
That means players do not need to treat BGMI Lite as a completely separate identity from their existing BGMI experience.
However, players should distinguish between confirmed account and item compatibility and assumptions about every piece of profile data. KRAFTON has not published a detailed technical breakdown explaining how every category of data, progression or purchase-related information will function across both apps.
BGMI and BGMI Lite Players Can Play Together
Perhaps the most important feature for squads is cross-play.
KRAFTON has confirmed that BGMI Lite players will be able to team up with players using the standard BGMI application. The official Google Play listing says users can team up with friends on BGMI directly from BGMI Lite.
This means players who install the lighter version are not expected to be isolated in a completely separate community simply because they are using a different app.
For friends using different versions of the game, that could make the transition to BGMI Lite considerably simpler.
Android First, iOS Details Still Pending
For now, the confirmed pre-registration rollout is for Android users in India.
KRAFTON has said that details about iOS availability and pre-registration will be shared at a later date. So iPhone and iPad users should not assume that an unofficial download link or an unrelated App Store listing is the official BGMI Lite release.
The Android-first approach also means the current pre-registration information should not be interpreted as a final statement about the long-term platform availability of the game.
Is BGMI Lite the Same as the Old PUBG Mobile Lite?
Not exactly.
The old PUBG Mobile Lite was a separate lightweight version of PUBG Mobile that became unavailable in India after the 2020 government blocking of PUBG Mobile and a number of other apps. BGMI Lite is being introduced by KRAFTON as a new India-specific title within the BGMI ecosystem.
That distinction matters because players should not assume that old PUBG Mobile Lite accounts, inventories or progress will automatically return with BGMI Lite.
KRAFTON's current account-related announcements concern existing BGMI accounts. There has been no official announcement saying that old PUBG Mobile Lite accounts or their historical inventories will be restored in BGMI Lite.
What Has KRAFTON Confirmed So Far?
- Launch window: By the end of 2026 in India.
- Pre-registration: Open from 25 August 2026 for Android users in India.
- Initial download: Approximately 1GB.
- First-match access: No extra mandatory package is required before the first match.
- Additional content: Optional modules can be downloaded and removed according to the player's needs.
- Existing account: Current BGMI accounts can be used on BGMI Lite.
- Owned items: KRAFTON's official Google Play listing says owned items carry over.
- Cross-play: BGMI Lite players can play with users of the standard BGMI app.
- Erangel: The classic Erangel map is confirmed.
- iOS: Availability and pre-registration details have not yet been announced.
What Is Still Not Officially Revealed?
Despite the growing amount of information, several important details remain open.
KRAFTON has not yet provided the exact BGMI Lite launch date. The company has also not published a complete list of supported devices covering processors, operating-system versions and every supported GPU configuration.
Detailed information about every available map, game mode, graphics option, frame-rate setting and the final storage footprint after optional resources are installed is also still expected.
This is why players should be careful with so-called "leaked" specifications. A number circulating online should not be treated as official unless it comes from KRAFTON or an authenticated store listing.
BGMI Lite Pre-Registration Response
The early response has already attracted significant attention. A September 17 report citing the official BGMI Lite Instagram account said the game had crossed 5 million pre-registrations on Google Play.
That figure should be understood as a reported milestone rather than a launch-day player count. Pre-registration numbers measure people who have signed up ahead of release and do not indicate how many players will ultimately remain active after launch.
Why BGMI Lite Matters for Indian Players
BGMI has become increasingly demanding as new graphics, features, maps and content have been added over the years. For players using older phones, storage limitations and performance problems can become a bigger issue even when their devices are otherwise perfectly usable.
BGMI Lite gives KRAFTON a way to address that part of the audience without removing those players from the wider BGMI ecosystem.
The combination of a roughly 1GB initial download, optional content modules, existing-account support and cross-play suggests that KRAFTON is focusing on accessibility without creating a completely disconnected version of the game.
What Players Should Do Before the Launch
For Android users interested in BGMI Lite, the safest step is straightforward: pre-register through the official Google Play listing published by KRAFTON.
There is no reason to install an APK from a random website simply because it claims to offer BGMI Lite early. Before the official launch, such files should be treated with caution.
Players should also avoid assuming that unofficial videos showing alleged gameplay, minimum requirements or a specific launch date represent final information from KRAFTON.
Final Update on BGMI Lite
BGMI Lite is officially coming to India in 2026, but the exact release date is still pending. The most important developments have already happened: KRAFTON has announced the game, opened Android pre-registration and confirmed a roughly 1GB initial download along with existing BGMI account support and cross-play.
For now, the official timeline remains by the end of 2026. Until KRAFTON announces a specific launch date, players should treat claims about an exact day or month as unconfirmed.
The next major update to watch is therefore the official launch announcement and the remaining information about supported devices, iOS availability, gameplay options and final system requirements.
